Beginning to scrapbook an entire trip worth of pictures can seem like quite a daunting task. I tend to snap pictures of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING (no joke) when I travel, so I end up with literally hundreds of photos to sort through. It’s very easy to become overwhelmed with trying to document all of your wonderful memories and photographs, but the good news is that you don’t have to be! Here are some tips to help you tackle getting those trip pics off your camera or computer and into a scrapbook that you can enjoy!

5 tips for scrapping your travel pics:

1. Pack a “travel journal”: use this to document your daily adventures so that when you sit down to start scrapbooking you have a bit of a timeline to work from. Another benefit to keeping a travel journal during your trip is that your journaling will already be started, or even done depending on how detailed your travel journal notes are.

2. Pocket Pages are your friend: Rather than trying to create tons of 12x12 or 8.5 x11 layouts give pocket pages a try. They are very popular and easy to find as the Project Life trend continues to grow. These will allow you space for both your photos and journaling, without having to add loads of embellishments etc. ( unless of course you want to ) which leads me to my next tip…

3. KEEP IT SIMPLE! Chances are the people who will be enjoying this album are not going to be scrapbookers (besides yourself) So while you are up to date with the latest papercrafting techniques and trends, they are not. While of course, you want a beautiful scrapbook album that you can be proud of, rather than trying to make every page a masterpiece, keep the majority of your layout simple with the focus on your beautiful pictures and journaling, and save the over the top embellishing for a few “special” layouts highlighting maybe, your very favorite memories from the trip.

4. REMEMBER You don’t Have to Scrapbook EVERY Picture you take: This is sometimes a hard one for me because I tend to take so many pictures. Try picking out snapshots that really help to tell the story of your trip.

5. There’s no shame in photo albums: Let’s face it, sometimes you really just have WAY too many pictures to possibly ever scrapbook, even using a simplified project life style method. Now, who says you can’t throw all those extra pics into either pocketed page protectors either chronologically with your layouts or just at the end of your album with absolutely no embellishment or journaling. Or hey, why not go completely old school and pop those extra snapshots into a photo album? Why not, right? They are off your camera/computer and in a place where you and your family can easily flip through and enjoy… and well isn’t that the whole point?!

Scrapbooking your travel pics should be a fun experience. And I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be, what, with all the wonderful online galleries, blogs, and videos filled with inspiration, mountains of product to choose from, and, of course, the challenge of actually sitting down and completing a travel album. It’s easy to lose sight of the end goal -- preserving and documenting your family’s memories! I try to remind myself of this when starting any sort of memory keeping project, so I can keep those feelings of being overwhelmed at bay. I hope some of these tips come in handy the next time you embark on tackling a travel album.
